What University Verified means
University verification is optional and never needed to take part. The University Verified badge means a university affiliation was confirmed through the approved institution directory and account-control checks; an email ending in .ac.uk alone is not enough. Universities that people add themselves are shown as self-declared. Verification does not establish someone’s character, intentions or trustworthiness.
Choose who sees your life
Stories default to Buddies. Use Close Buddies for a smaller audience, or choose the eligible community deliberately. Private profiles, conversations and other authenticated content are not public search pages.
Location and activity are optional
Activity visibility and approximate location start off. Turn them on only if you want to, and switch them off in your privacy controls. Buddy Up does not offer a live map of student locations. Avoid sharing your home address in Plans or posts.
Block and report
Use Block to stop unwanted contact. Use Report on concerning profiles, posts, messages, Stories, Plans or games. Authorised moderators can review reported evidence; submitting a report does not promise a particular outcome or response time.
Meet with care
- Choose a public place and arrange your own travel.
- Tell someone you trust where you are going.
- Keep control of personal information and belongings.
- Leave if you feel uncomfortable. You never owe someone a meeting.
If there is an immediate danger, contact local emergency services. In the UK, call 999. Buddy Up is not an emergency response service.
Your professional life stays separate
Buddy Up shares canonical identity and, where you have one, university verification with SPP. Your Buddy Profile does not publish your CV, job applications or private career evidence.
